Relationship and Respect

Relationship and Respect

Respect is the foundation of any relationship.

The father of modern psychiatry, William James said, ''The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.'' Those who are not appreciated do not feel respected. It is disheartening.

Hopefully we not only see that respect is an important aspect of life, but we see why it is important to show it consistently. Everyone is due respect by virtue of being a human being. Everyone wants respect. Everyone should show respect. So hopefully everyone will receive the respect they are due, and they will grant the respect due others.

What is Self-Respect?
We teach other how to treat us. If you do not respect yourself first and foremost, how do you expect anyone else to?
Show yourself the respect you are looking for, and you will begin to show the people in your life how you expect to be treated.
This comes down to things like the way you talk to and about yourself, how you view yourself, and how much power you give yourself in the relationship.
Stop and think about whether you are respecting yourself enough. Because when you do, you will encourage others to treat you the same.
